Over the years, I’ve had some truly unusual business ideas. Ideas that, at the time, I dismissed because no one else had done them. I believed success came from following a proven template. If my ideas didn’t fit the mould, I assumed they were wrong.
That way of thinking is dangerous. It’s the silent killer of dreams. It is rooted in insecurity and often reinforced by well-meaning friends who share the same limiting beliefs
When I launched my first UK business, I built my own website. Back then, creating a website was almost like rocket science, and I was proud of my effort. I sent it to a friend for feedback, and her advice was simple: “Make it look more serious, more like Argos.”
Had I listened, I would have stripped away the intimacy and warmth that made it unique and replaced it with something sterile, something ordinary. But The Baby Cot Shop was never meant to be like everyone else. Our boutique is one of a kind. Our pieces, crafted with care and made to order, are unmatched. That authenticity is our strength.
Thankfully, over time, I uncovered the limiting mindset that told me to blend in, and I discovered its antidote: authenticity. Here’s the truth: you are a uniquely created being, inspired by God. God had a dream, and you came true. Your individuality is your superpower. Your personality, your thoughts, your ideas, they are yours alone, just like your fingerprints.
At The Baby Cot Shop, no two bespoke pieces are ever identical. Each one is handcrafted with love and precision. Compare that to the mass-produced furniture on the high street, where every piece is cut from the same template, and the difference is clear. You, too, were handcrafted, not mass-produced.
So why force yourself into a cookie-cutter life? Why shrink your ideas to fit into someone else’s template? Your authentic nature means your vision will often look new, untested, even uncomfortable. That is its power. Don’t be afraid of the path less travelled. Don’t dilute your originality to gain approval.
You were created to stand out. So trust the ideas placed within you, and blaze your own trail with courage.
